Rufus Hound has admitted he needed a stiff drink before shaving off his moustache for his latest stage role.
The comedian is appearing in Dirty Rotten Scoundrels and revealed show bosses asked him to remove his facial hair, which he had been growing since appearing on stage in Neville's Island.
He said: "I didn't have a moustache for Neville's Island, but as soon as that was over, I grew it back, and I had a beautiful, English handlebar moustache, curly at the ends - I cannot tell you how much in love with that I was.
"Then the producer came up to me yesterday and said, 'We're doing the publicity pictures and we'll need the moustache off'. So last night, I poured myself a stiff drink, told the moustache how much I loved it, and that I'd see it again at some point in the future, and now it's gone."
The star also revealed he has been hard at work on his vocal skills as he has to sing for the role.
"I've spent the last four months doing nothing but singing lessons," he said. "It's going OK. They're all being very complimentary anyway, so as long as they're not lying...
"I was raised on musical theatre. In my childhood, my mum did nothing but play the soundtrack to Les Mis, and my nan's favourite thing in the world was Phantom Of The Opera."
