Jamie Dornan is hoping playing a serial killer in new BBC drama The Fall will help him to lose his model tag.
The 30-year-old Northern Irish actor has modelled for designers including Calvin Klein, where he worked with both Kate Moss and Eva Mendes, Dior, Aquascutum and Armani. He met Keira Knightley on one photoshoot and they dated for two years.
In The Fall Jamie plays Paul Spector, a bereavement counsellor and father who spends his nights stalking and murdering young women.
Jamie said: "Very few people who watch BBC dramas would know I was a model. If you do too much modelling I guess there's a stigma attached to it.
"I wanted to act from a young age but then other things get in the way I guess. This isn't even close to anything I've done before.
"I'm keen for this to come out because I think it might change things a little bit."
And Jamie has no qualms about playing a serial killer.
He said: "I think it's a great drama and an amazing character. No actor in the world agrees with the stuff that Spector's up to but it's a dramatisation, it's not real. It's a great character and I wanted to play him."
But he added: "I auditioned for the role of the police officer originally."
:: The Fall, co-starring Gillian Anderson, begins on BBC One on Monday May 13, 2013.
