Lenora Crichlow has joked that her own humanity meant she was "getting too old" to play her character in hit show Being Human.

The 27-year-old actress had played ghost Annie Sawyer in BBC Three's cult sci-fi series since 2008, but left the show this year.

"It was sad because it was such an incredible job," she said. "It opened some amazing doors, but it felt time to take the stabilisers off and move on.

"And Annie is essentially a ghost that doesn't age and I age," she added, laughing.

Lenora has already branched out this year with roles in George Gently, Christmas drama Doors Open and summer sport movie Fast Girls.

Fast Girls marked her film debut in a lead role and she admits being pictured on posters has brought her "a whole new level of exposure as an actor".

She'd love to work in America if the right opportunity comes up, but said London is home and will keep her feet firmly on the ground.

"I just don't think I'm in a place where I think all that glitters is gold," she said. "Every time I get bogged down in a plan, something comes up and steers me in a different direction, so I need to remain open."
