Broadcaster Danny Baker has landed a new BBC TV show celebrating great albums
Broadcaster Danny Baker, who quit his radio show live on air earlier this month, has landed a new BBC TV show celebrating great albums.
The presenter - who bowed out from his BBC London programme, but continues on BBC Radio 5 Live - will host the three-part discussion show for BBC4 in the new year.
Station controller Richard Klein said: "We're going to celebrate the album. There's a 'golden age of the album' which we're going to look at."
"It's not a list show. The principal point about the golden age of the album is to say: what is it that makes an album great? What are the qualities you need to have?"
He added: "It won't be the top ten that it usually is."
Danny bowed out of his afternoon programme with a two-hour rant after he learned from his agent that his weekday show was to be axed by BBC London later this year.
His new TV series is due to air in February on BBC4, which has become renowned for its Friday night music documentaries, with recent slots devoted to Chas And Dave, and Squeeze.
Mr Klein said: "I'm really pleased with the way audiences have responded to a film about Chas and Dave as much as a film about George Solti. For me, they're equally good."
He has also announced the channel has snapped up a prequel to its popular Italian detective series Inspector Montalbano, called Young Montalbano, and looking at the earlier years of writer Andrea Camilleri's Sicilian crimefighter.
The channel will also screen further Montalbano mysteries after a second run of 12 films ended last week.
