LANCASHIRE County Council has warned that there will be some disruption while the Aviva Tour of Britain passes through East Lancashire.

A spokesperson for Lancashire County Council said: "The Tour of Britain passes through parts of Pendle and the Ribble Valley on September 7.

"Most roads along the route will only be closed for up to an hour as the riders make their way through the stage. "However, some roads will have to be closed for longer as we are expecting them to be very busy with spectators.

"Road closures will be in place for longer in Clitheroe and Colne, for the start and finish of the stage, and these are likely to cause disruption.

"Some of the roads that include climbs will also need to be closed for longer, as larger numbers of spectators are expected to congregate.

"We will do everything we can to keep disruption to a minimum. However, this is a major event that will attract a lot of spectators and people should allow extra time for journeys while the race is on."
