IAN McCulloch must now set his sights on April's World Snooker Championships after being knocked out of the Welsh Open by Shaun Maguire.
The Walton-le-Dale potter was beaten 5-3 in the second round of the tournament by Maguire, currently ranked world number three.
McCulloch, 36, must now turn his attention to the World Championships in Sheffield.
But to qualify for the prestigious event, where last year he reached the last 16, he must first overcome up-and-coming Chinese star Liang Wenbo in a best-of-19 qualifying match next month.
