Low Moor on a high as they reach North West last four

Low Moor swept into the semi-finals of the North West small table snooker champ-ionship with a 4-1 win away to Excelsior No 1 at Blackpool.

Carl Drinkwater was in top form for the Clitheroe club in the opener but Paul Traynor only edged in on the black before Blackpool star Lee Clough pulled one back.

Peter Mercer cleaned up with a 38 to win on the black in the next and then Chris “Ponytail” Lawson turned on his own brand of cue magic to clinch victory.

Trailing by 52 points, he clicked into gear and swept through with a majestic 60 break.

Nelson Poultry were surprise 4-1 winners over a strong Aqueduct side from Blackburn.

Chris Mount just lost the opener against Ian Harle but then it was all one-way traff-ic as Justin Astley, Alan “Crasher” Heaton, James Moran and Gaz Hampson all fell by the wayside. Paul Barnes was in particularly devastating form for Poultry.

Hoddlesden Con Club, Darwen, also managed only one frame – from veteran Terry Trobe – as they went down to Excelsior’s Seconds. Cemetery (Darwen) are still trying to arrange their quarter-final against champ-ions Carleton Bowling (Blackpool).

The semi-finals and final will be held at Claremont Con Club, Blackpool. Cemetery or Carleton will play Excelsior 2 on Monday, May 9; Low Moor will meet Nelson Poultry on the following day and the final will be on the Thursday.
