COLNE and Nelson paid the price for a string of mistakes as they slipped to a 17-0 defeat at Chorley in the East Lancashire derby.

However, the Holt House side can take positives out of the defeat with debutants Mark Britcliffe and Luke Edwards both impressing on their first outings.

A well organised Chorley outfit made their intentions clear from the start with their huge forwards carrying the ball at every opportunity.

But Colne got wise to the home side’s game and soon bossed proceedings without taking advantage of their possession.

And they switched off after conceding a penalty in the Chorley 22 which the home ran instead of kicking which resulted in a try under the posts.

Alan Mackay and Steve Edwards were controlling the line-outs for Colne but they once again dropped their guard as Chorley ran in another converted try to lead 14-0.

Colne improved after the break with some strong running from centres Andrew Grindrod and David Hoyle but could not get themselves in to scoring opportunities.
