A FATHER-of-three found with a knife and an air weapon in a public place has been given a suspended jail term.

Andrew Barry Simpson, 36, had been arrested after two men were spotted using air rifles on a field at Nelson and Colne Rugby Club.

The pair were walking away with the guns, which were in bags and not loaded.

Simpson, subject to a suspended jail term, had a lock-knife on him when he was searched, Burnley magistrates had earlier been told.

The defendant, of Keighley Avenue, Colne, admitted possessing a knife blade and an air rifle in a public place.

He got an eight week prison sentence, suspended for six months, with a three month curfew.

He must also pay £60 costs.
