Burnley searching for that killer instinct
11:03am Tuesday 28th December 2010 in Burnley RUFC
By Steve Tinniswood, Sports reporter
BURNLEY coach Getty Schinkel is looking for his players to discover a ‘killer instinct’ when the season resumes next week.
The South African has been delighted with his side’s performance at the half way stage but he knows their record of 11 wins and four defeats could be better.
“The lads have been superb this season and against the top teams they have really risen to the challenge,” said the South African.
“We beat Trafford when they were leading the table and narrowly lost to Aldwinians who were second.
“But it is against the lesser sides where we have failed to have that killer instinct.
“We go lenient on them instead of hammering home our superioty.
“But that ruthlessness is something we are working on.”
Schinkel said a top five finish would be considered a successful season for a side who dropped down in to North Lancs One last season.
“Of course we would love to bounce back and go straight up but a few years in the wilderness won’t do us any harm.
“Everything we are doing is geared up for the future of the club and we are slowing putting in some strong foundations.
“We can field three seniors side and we are getting big turnouts at training, something we struggling with last term.
“We are delighed with the ways things are going on and off the pitch.”
