BURNLEY slipped back to old habits as they returned to losing ways at Fleetwood.

Having won against Upper Eden last weekend - the culmination of four weeks of improving rugby - coach Getty Schinkel saw his side lose in a match he had targeted for victory.

“We made giant steps forward in recent weeks but now we have gone backwards again,” said Schinkel. “It was disappointing because we have played so well in recent weeks and we started this match very well also.

“But we played 15 minutes of good rugby in the first half and did the same again after the break. It seems we have returned to our old ways.”

Burnley took a deserved lead when Richard Griffiths crashed over in the corner but they switched off as Fleetwood scored two tries, a conversion and a penalty to take control.

Greek international Alex Menderos slotted over a penalty to cut the gap but despite piling on the pressure, Burnley could find no way through.
