Didsbury Toc 15 Blackburn 20
Blackburn secured their first away win since September but left it late to secure a hard-fought victory at Didsbury.
After a poor start, Black-burn conceded an early try when the Didsbury winger scored in the corner from a blind side move from a 5m scrum.
Blackburn replied through the boot of Max Fullalove, then took the lead on 20 minutes with a breakaway try – Steve Bibby hacking a loose ball in to the home side’s 22, Leon Fifield gathered and fed Fullalove to score in the corner.
However, the lead did not last long as five minutes later, Didsbury were awarded a penalty try after Blackburn handled in the scrum. The conversion in front of the posts was successful and Didsbury led 12-8 which was stretched to 15-8 with a penalty just before the break.
Blackburn piled on the pressure after the break and added a second try in the 55th minute. Nick Rhodes managed to win a Didsbury line out in the the home side’s 22, Anton Garcia took the ball up with a powerful run, the ball was then passed on to Max Fullalove who then fed centre, Leon Fifield, who scored his first try for Blackburn.
The conversion was missed but Blackburn were now just two points behind.
They were then given a numerical advantage when the Didsbury fly half was sin-binned and they piled on the pressure looking for the winning try.
Luke Copping thought he had got it but was held up over the line but, with four minutes remaining, Liam Oldham went straight over the ruck from 10m out and stretched to touch the ball down just over the try line.
Fullalove slotted over the extras to seal a memorable away day victory.
