Scottish coach job for former Burnley coach Leck
FORMER Burnley Rugby Club coach Phil Leck has been appointed the new head coach of Scottish club Hawick.
Leck has joined the struggling BT Scotland Premier League Division One club and has the task of helping to revive it’s flagging fortunes.
The Scottish Borders semi-professional club has won just once all season but Leck admits he is looking forward to the challenge ahead.
He said: “I’m under no illusions. It’s not going to be a quick fix and I can’t wave a magic wand.
“There is a challenge there to be faced and I wouldn’t have accepted the job if I didn’t think I was up to it.”
Leck takes a wealth of experience with him north of the border having worked with the academy set-up at Sale Sharks for a number of years.
He is still connected with Burnley RUFC – his son Dom plays for the club – and will initially commute to the Scottish Borders from his East Lancashire home.
But he won’t be the only member of the Leck household plying their trade in Scotland as his other son, Chris, signed for Edinburgh Rugby.
He joined Edinburgh, who are currently playing in the Heineken Cup, from Sale Sharks in the summer.
Leck’s first team appearances for Edinburgh have been restricted as he is playing understudy to two current Scottish internationals, Mike Blair and Greig Laidlaw.
