Carnegie Champion Schools Finalists Holy Cross Year 7 Girls team have won the Daily Telegraph’s School Sports Matters School Team of the Year award for 2008.
The national award which was open to all sports teams from schools across the country went to the Chorley based School partly due to the successful links between the School and local club Chorley Panthers.
Anthony Ryder, Holy Cross Head Coach said: “This award rounds off an amazing year for the team, we were surprised to win the award but very proud of what we’ve achieved.
"This is the first year the girls have played Rugby League and the link with the club has really helped to develop the girls.”
The successful team won a whole range of titles last season, winning the North West Counties Schools Cup, North West Carnegie Champion Schools Final and the Lancashire Youth Games.
