BURNLEY’S Kiwi import Richard Murray is confident the cup success over Burnage will kick start their season in the league.
The Holden Road club have yet to taste victory in the league so the EDF Intermediate Cup win was all the more important.
“We have been unlucky in the league so far this season,” said the try scoring New Zealander who returned to his favoured position as a flanker after a spell as an emergency back. “We have had several first choice players missing this season through injury which has made it difficult for us.
“A lot of players have had to play out of position, including myself, so it is good to get this win under our belts.”
Burnley, promoted to the North Lancs/Cumbria Divsion via the play-offs last season, ran in four tries against the South Lancs/Cheshire One side.
Winger Phil Hesketh crossed the line while fly half Paul McLinden scored two tries.
Burnley now go to fellow strugglers Upper Eden on Saturday looking for their first points of the campaign.
“The victory has definitely given us a boost,” added Murray who has been at Burnley for a year. “We knew it was important for us to get that first win so now hopefully we can go to Upper Eden and win our first points of the season.”
