IN-FORM Burnley ran in 11 tries on the road to move to the top of the Lancashire (North) table.

However, the first try of the afternoon went to the home side after Ashton’s best back burst through Burnley’s defence and sprinted in to score.

Ashton then missed a penalty to go 8-0 up before Burnley finally realised they were in for a game.

A couple of lively carries by Jack Stockdale got Burnley on the front foot and Lee Ferrier went over in the corner.

Some strong carrying by centre Alex Woodcock and Ben Healy enabled James Redford to score, followed by Ferrier again both converted by Redford, who then left the field and on came Rob Lawless for his Burnley debut.

Luca Anglone was next to score, driving through to touch down before Lawless got his debut try.

Into the second half, Ash Rothwell returned to the team after breaking a bone in his hand in pre-season, alongside Dave Lord. Burnley continued to run their patterns seeing big hits going in,

Danny Rowland made a good break, with a great offload to Healy who powered through the last player and scored, converted by Lawless. Woodcock continued the try count before a quick tap and go from player/coach Simon Finna released captain Tom Ives who showed great pace to score in the corner.

Adam Wallis was next to go over before the final try came when full back Filipo Alefosio called a “Mark” took the free kick quickly and sprinted away beating numerous players - round and through them - and as Ashton best back final took him down Wallis was supporting excellently and over he went for his second of the game.

On Saturday, Burnley who have won all four matches this season, host Thornton Cleveleys who they beat in the cup four weeks ago.
