ACCRINGTON Panthers landed a win over the Cadishead Rhinos in a topsy turvy game at Livingstone Road.

The game swung both ways before a second half onslaught from the Panthers landed a 40-24 victory.

It was the Rhinos who took the lead after six minutes with a converted try, but five minutes later the Panthers were level with stand-off Leon Fifield converting his own try.

Accrington took the lead for the first time when second row forward Neil Pugh went over for a try, again converted by Fifield.

The lead didn’t last long though with the Rhinos levelling at 12-12, but it was the home side who went in ahead when centre Tom Gallagher scored their third try, going over in the corner.

Two minutes into the second half it was the turn of the Rhinos to go ahead 18-16.

The Panthers took control from here on in though, Fifield went over for his second try, before scrum-half Andy Watson and loose-forward Ashley O’Rourke went over, with all three converted by that man Fifield.

The Rhinos picked up a late score of their own but there was still time for the Panthers to go over again with Mark Fisher producing the final act.

Panthers stay seventh in the North West Men’s League Division Two. They travel to play Pilkington Recs A next week, and the next action at Livingstone Road is on July 6 when the Hindpool Tigers visit (2.30pm).
