DANNY Rowland ran in six tries as Pendle Phoenix recorded their biggest and most emphatic win of the season against local rivals Clitheroe.

Phoenix crossed for a total of 14 tries – with Rowland in the thick of the action – as they boosted their hopes of a top three finish in North Lancs Two.

Pendle crossed the whitewash six times before the break and a further eight times after it as Clitheroe tired in the latter stages.

Rowland got the ball rolling with the game’s first try, going over in the corner.

Phoenix were happy to attack from anywhere and soon Rob Lawless scored after a break from Carl Wiseman had spilt the Clitheroe defence.

It wasn’t long before the home side ran in a third try and this time Rowland showed his turn of pace when he caught a loose Clitheroe clearance and sprinted away to score a great solo try.

It was now one-way traffic and Sterling Ross powered over immediately from the kick off. The next score showed Pendle’s forwards to be just as strong with ball in hand.

Excellent inter-passing between Carl Wiseman and James Finucane opened up a massive hole for Liam Canning to sprint through and score.

Nathan Peverley finally slotted over a conversion to make it 27-0.

There was no let up for Clitheroe and Benjamin Peverley crossed the line after fast hands from Andy Dutton and Carl Wiseman to create space to score.

Phoenix started the second half as they had finished the first with another try, this time for Nick Martin with Nathan Peverley adding the extras.

Peverley made up for a poor kicking display with an excellent try, side stepping two Clitheroe defenders to score.

While the game was now long gone, Clitheroe refused to give up but they had no answer to the power and precision of Pendle.

And they clocked up a half century of points when Tarquinn Hempstead-Smith raced clear to score under the sticks with Peverley adding the extras to make it 51-0. Rowland then completed his hat-trick before Nathan Peverley crossed for his second.

With Clitheroe tiring, the home side were in complete control and Rowland dabbed down his fourth of the match.

Canning then crossed for his second try before, fittingly, Rowland finished what he had started with two late tries.
