THE Clitheroe Triathlon took place in sunny conditions on Sunday – with 184 athletes taking part in the gruelling challenge.

Competitors signed up as either solo entrants or as a relay team, starting with a 400m pool swim, then 30k road cycle, before finishing off with a 6.5k trail/road run.

It all began early at 8am as all competitors swam 16 lengths of the 25m pool at Ribblesdale Swimming Pool.

The 18-mile bike ride followed, topped off with a four-mile run that was largely off-road.

Sadly for the cycling event organisers, they were informed at short notice that road works would be present on their route.

Emergency changes were made and with a bit of ‘signage juggling’ all cyclists were able to get around the course without error.

Josh Hutchinson, of Royal Navy Triathlon, was the overall winner, finishing in one hour, 24 minutes and 15 seconds.

He finished 40 seconds clear of nearest rival, Mark Taylor.

Maddy Winzer, 18, of Richmond, North Yorkshire, a member of the UK Sport Lottery Funded British Triathlon Olympic Foundation Squad, was the leading female with a time of 1:27:16.
