USAIN Bolt has successfully defended his Olympic 100m title as he held off the challenge of Yohan Blake.
Bolt shot to fame with victory and a world record in Beijing four years ago before adding World Championships gold in 2009 with an even quicker time of 9.59 seconds.
He was then disqualified from last year’s World Championships final following a false start but he put that behind him as he took gold in a new Olympic record of 9.63.
Blake – the world champion in Daegu a year ago – was second in 9.75, equalling his personal best.
Justin Gatlin finished third in a new personal best of 9.79, just edging out Tyson Gay for the bronze medal.
