Massaro loses out in classic in Cleveland

WORLD number one Nicol David gained revenge on East Lancashire star Laura Massaro in the early hours of this morning as she lifted squash's Tub O'Towels Cleveland Classic - a year after the local hero claimed the glory.

Malaysa's David saw her long unbeaten run ended by Massaro in the final of the tournament 12 months ago.

And this morning's showpiece seemed to be going Massaro's way when she won the first game 11/7.

In the second game David took a 3-0 lead, but Massaro benefited from two David errors to move ahead 4-3. From there, they traded high-pressured points to 9-9, when Massaro got a fortunate back-court nick to give her game ball.

What followed was the most memorable point as they slugged it out only for David to fight back and take it 12/10.

Massaro's heart was then broken as David took the next two games 11/7 and 11/8 to win the silverware.
