Pioneer '79 swimmers made a big splash in Italy when they each completed a mammoth 50,000 metres in the pool as part of a recent training camp - a combined 800,000 metres!
16 swimmers from the club which is based in Hyndburn and Blackburn, took part in the intensive programme which was completed over four gruelling days at the youth Olympic pool in Lignano, Italy.
The camp, organised by Karen Britland and Wendy Makin, included four hours of pool sessions each day, as well as a variety of other sporting and leisure activities.
Head coach, Lee Stringfellow said: “This was a superb training camp which everyone enjoyed. The swimmers worked very hard and learned new skills and drills.
“They all returned to the club energised and have continued the hard work ready for all the up and coming fixtures.” The swimmers were also lucky enough to train with part of the Polish Olympic swimming team and received tips from their coaches. “All in all the swimmers worked incredibly hard on both the metres swam and the skills they learnt. All the swimmers came back fitter and faster then when they left,” added Lee.
