JACK Catterall is targeting a world title fight after reclaiming the vacant WBO Inter-Continental super-lightweight title on Saturday.

The Chorley star extended his record to 21 wins from 21 bouts after a first round technical knockout over Christophe Sebire, who stepped in at late notice and was outclassed and knocked down in the 90 seconds that were fought before the Frenchman pulled out with a dislocated shoulder.

Catterall, nicknamed El Gato, has one eye on fighting the winner of Terry Flanagan’s world title defence against American Maurice Hooker next month in what would be the 24-year-old’s first bout at that level.

There is also the possibility of a world title eliminator against the likes of fellow Brit Ohara Davies who is also in Frank Warren’s stable.

While nothing is yet firmed up, Catterall, who was due to fight Mohamed Kani before the Frenchmen pulled out injured prompting Sebire’s inclusion, is happy to go down either route in his bid to reach the top.

“I am ready to fight anybody,” he said. “If they put a final eliminator in place then we will go with that. I have been at inter-continental level for several fights now, I have a great ranking with the WBO so naturally I want to fight for the world title.

“I want to be in the big fights.

“I’ll be ringside watching Terry next month. Those are the types of fights I am ready for now so I am hoping to fight some big fights.”

The win was Catterall’s second since joining up with new trainer Jamie Moore and the East Lancashire ace felt the partnership was bearing fruit, even if he hasn’t needed to go past the opening round in either of those bouts.

Catterall added: “It’s been very good, that was my second fight with Jamie.

“I am working every day in the gym on all different types of things, footwork, speed, angles, defence. I feel like it is all coming together and everything is coming into place so I am happy.”

Catterall and Moore have yet to rule out the possibility of trying to make a fight on the Flanagan bill. The Manchester man is on the undercard of Tyson Fury’s fight at the Manchester Arena on June 9.

Catterall said: “I’d like to get out again sooner rather than later because I didn’t get chance to show what we had worked on.”

And Moore added: “Moving forward maybe there is an opportunity where he might be able to get on the undercard of Flanagan because he has just had a little quick run-out and maybe we could try and build the fight that way.

“I like the Flanagan fight for him even though ideally I would like him to have another six to 12 months, but opportunities like that don’t always come along so if he got offered to us then obviously we would take it.

“I have no issue with him fighting Ohara Davies either, I think he (Davies) is a good domestic fighter but there is lots of good domestic fighters at this weight division.

“Let’s see how it plays out but I would like to get him out sooner rather than later.”
