COLNE manager Steve Cunningham has delivered an early Christmas present to Reds fans with two new signings on board in time for the festive fixtures

The Reds are struggling in the lower reaches of the Evo-Stik North and are only outside the relegation zone on goal difference.

And Cunningham has completed a double deal in a bit to ignite his side's season.

Along with the permanent arrival of right back Waqas Azam from Chorley, Colne have signed Brad Knox from Clitheroe and the Reds chief is delighted with the business.

He told the club's official website: "These latest signings show the club is planning for the future, not just the present. We are building a very young team."

Centre midfielder Knox spent time with Accrington Stanley, Wolves and Fleetwood and said he hoped to kickstart his career at the Reds.

"The team is being rebuilt with some very exciting young players and the plans in place for the next two or three years are just what I need to kick start my football.

"I am looking forward to getting my head down, working hard and get back to enjoying my football.

"The manager has shown a lot belief in me. Like most players, I strive off confidence and look forward to showing the red army exactly what I can do. I’m here to win things and can’t wait to get started."

Right back Azam has spent time on loan with Colne and the former Burnley youngster was delighted to pen a permanent 18-month deal.

He said: "The club has some very exciting plans and you can see where the chairman wants the club to be in the next few seasons.

"I want to be at a club that wants to progress both on and off the field and you only have to see how far they have come in the last three seasons.

"I enjoyed my time at Chorley and thank them for the opportunity but at 20 years of age I just want to play football, it was frustrating at times but only because the player in my position was playing so well week-in, week-out. I wish them and all the supporters well but its time for me to kick on."
