ENGLAND Lions had to settle for a draw in their three-day match with a Queensland Select side after the final day's play was washed out in Brisbane.

The hosts had ended the second day with a lead of 344 after getting to 198-2 in their second innings, but heavy rain at the Allan Border Field wiped out the final day.

On Tuesday, England head coach Trevor Bayliss had seen Keaton Jennings and Ben Foakes impress with the bat as Jennings scored 89 from 148 balls and Foakes made 67.

Foakes shared wicketkeeping duties with Lancashire's Alex Davies with the Darwen ace sharing in a positive unbroken stand of 43 before a declaration on 250-5 in the hope of setting up a last-day run chase. Davies finished on 25 not out having hit two sixes while Livingstone ended unbeaten on 22.

But the weather intervened to ensure there was no result possible.

Foakes relished his first taste of the Ashes experience at the Gabba, even though he was restricted to a watching brief as England went 1-0 down in the series.

“When you come out as back-up keeper you know your game time is going to be limited, but it’s still been special to be out here and to experience that Test,” he said.

“We had three days of hard work when I thought we played pretty well, and although it slipped away in the end, hopefully Adelaide will be a good place for us to come back.”
