CLITHEROE made light work of the artic conditions and rivals Ossett Albion to seal a seventh win of the season in Evo Stik North.

On a weekend when a host of matches fell foul of the weather, Simon Haworth’s side recovered from going a goal down to record an impressive 4-1 win at Shawbridge.

Albion, one place off the bottom of the table, haven’t won on their travels all season but they took the lead through Tommy Wood’s goal just before the half hour mark.

But the Blues were soon back on level terms thanks to Daniel Brady’s equaliser.

Clitheroe were made to work hard for their victory and a second goal did not arrive until 15 minutes from time when Kurt Willoughby converted a penalty.

Willoughby was ‘spot on’ again 10 minutes later when he tucked away his second and Alexander Newby wrapped up the scoring in the last minute.

The win sees Clitheroe leap-frog Ramsbottom United in to 13th place following their 1-0 loss at Goole AFC.

The Rams travelled to Goole high in confidence following their 3-2 win at league leaders Bamber Bridge the previous weekend.

But they went behind early in bizarre circumstances when a hopeful looping cross from Carl Stewart from the right hand side landed in the arms of keeper Danny Taberner who appeared to take a step backwards before the linesman judged that the ball had crossed the line.

The early strike appeared to give Goole an uplift in confidence as on 20 minutes a well struck drive from the edge of the penalty area tested Taberner who saved comfortably.

The Rams responded shortly afterwards with two efforts on goal themselves, firstly Eddie Moran won the ball in midfield before striding forward and testing home stopper Saynor before Dean Stott’s shot from a similar distance again brought the Goole keeper into action.

Goole almost doubled their lead on the half hour mark when another swirling cross struck the Rams crossbar before hitting the back of Taberner and rolling narrowly past the post for a corner

But the Rams nearly drew level when loanee Jacques Kpohomouh’s well struck shot thumped the woodwork.

Ramsbottom started the second half the brighter with skipper Stott firing a shot at goal which kissed the outside of the post with Saynor beaten while Jerome Wright found space out wide before his cross found Sam Heathcote whose outstretched boot couldn’t divert the ball goalwards.

Greg Daniel had a great chance to net a late equaliser but fired wide from close range.

Colne’s match with Skelmersdale United was postponed.

In the Hallmark Security North West Counties League, AFC Darwen went down 1-0 at Burscough in the Premier Division while Padiham’s clash with 1874 Northwich was called off.

In Division One, Bacup’s match at Cheadle Town was also postponed while Nelson were beaten 1-0 at Silsden AFC on Friday night.
