CHORLEY will travel to Ashton Athletic in the third qualifying round of the FA Cup after the draw was made on Monday lunchtime.

The Magpies were 3-1 winners at Stalybridge Celtic at the weekend to book their place in the draw and two more wins would see Matt Jansen's side into the first round proper.

But Jansen will be wary of the threat posed by Ashton, who travel to Padiham in league action tonight. Athletic play their trade three levels below Chorley in the Hallmark Security League Premier Division but the Magpies were beaten on penalties by the same opponents in the semi-final of last season's Lancashire Challenge Trophy on their way to winning the competition.

The tie takes place on Saturday, September 30.

Jansen is keen on a cup run for his side this season after overcoming Stalybridge last time out.

He said: "I do want to have a good cup run, it will be great for the fans and great for the club so I am really gunned up for a good run and hopefully we will do that.

"It is pleasing to get into the next round but I don't think we were brilliant, I think we were okay.

I didn't think we were firing on all cylinders today, we have to approach every game exactly the same whether you are playing Barcelona or the Dog & Duck. It is difficult to raise your game if you start a little bit flat and I think we started a little bit flat.

"I have demanded that every game has to be approached the same way. I want to steamroller teams and try and dominate teams."

He added: "At the end of the day you have to be delighted in the draw for the next round and these ties can be banana skins.

Meanwhile. in the Evo-Stik League North tonight, Clitheroe entertain Bamber Bridge while Ramsbottom United visit Kendal Town.

In the Hallmark Security League Premier Division, Barnoldswick Town host Charnock Richard. AFC Darwen are at home to Squires Gate on Wednesday.
