LAURA Massaro dedicated her second PSA World Series Finals title to her long-running coach David Pearson and thanked family and friends for their continued support.

The 33-year-old from Chorley made it back-to-back wins in the end of season tournament after beating world number one Nour El Sherbini at the iconic Dubai Opera House.

The world number four has been in superb form throughout the week - culminating with an 11-8, 12-10, 11-5 win over the current world champion - but was quick to point out that it was not a one-woman show.

"Any athlete knows that you can't do these things on your own," she said. "I've had the support of my husband Danny, which has been amazing.

"At home, all of my family and friends have been tuning in and the support is unbelievable along with my coach, David Pearson.

"I think he's in Seattle and it was his birthday on the day of the final so I was thinking that I would have liked to have got that one for him."

The Hoghton-based star, who will now take a well-earned holiday, was the standout player throughout the tournament, breezing in to the semi finals with a game to spare after 2-0 wins over Nicol David and England team-mate Sarah-Jane Perry before losing her final Group B match to El Sherbini.

Massaro then came from a game down to beat world number five Nouran Gohar 12-14, 12-10, 11-7 in the semi finals before gaining revenge over El Sherbini in a final that lasted 35 minutes.

"It's been amazing to play the way that I have," added Massaso. "I feel that I got better and better each round.

"To finish it with the way that I played in the final is really special, I love Dubai.

"I'm really proud of the week and I would like to thank everyone involved in putting the tournament on.

"As a squash player, to play in such an iconic location like this is absolutely unbelievable and thank you to all the sponsors, the PSA and everyone for hosting such an amazing event for us to play in."
