BRINSCALL skipper Phil Lowe hopes the arrival of club professional Clayton Bosch in time for this weekend’s Ribblesdale League double header can help inspire an upturn in fortunes for his side.

The School Lane men have lost both of their league outings but did record their first win of the campaign when they overcame Stacksteads in their opening Ramsbottom Cup game of the season last time out.

That was in part thanks to overseas amateur Brodie Whitbourne’s 113 and with South African Bosch due to arrive in the UK tomorrow ahead of Saturday’s trip to Oswaldtwistle Immanuel and Sunday’s home derby with Euxton, Lowe hopes his side can come out on the right side of the fine margins which have defined their league clashes.

“The frustrating thing with the two league games is that we could have won both of them,” said Lowe.

“We are playing Section A sides and the positive thing is that they have been close games but we could easily have won them both.

“In the first one against Read we lost by 40 odd runs and that was what their last two got as a pairing and we were in the game against Barnoldswick as well.”

Whitbourne’s ton against Stacksteads was a timely one as Brinscall successfully chased down 255 to win the game and Lowe, who admits he was unhappy with the bowling and fielding performance in the cup clash, believes the combination of their Australian amateur and professional Bosch can inspire a climb up the table.

“It will be good to have Clayton in place for the double header,” he added. “Brodie batted well on Saturday and hopefully Clayton can hit the ground running as well.

“We let Stacksteads, who are in the division below us, get far too many and it wasn’t a very good fielding or bowling performance but we came out and batted really well and it was good to get the win.”
