SOPHIE Lamb produced the perfect performance as she helped England retain the Seve Ballesteros Trophy.
The Clitheroe teenager took four points from four matches to help her country to a 17-13 win in the two-day mixed international at El Saler Golf Club in Valencia.
Lamb partnered Gemma Clews to victory in the opening foursomes as England took a 4-1 lead before adding her second point in the afternoon singles as the visitors led 9-5 at the end of day one.
Lamb and Clews paired up again to great effect on day two but Spain prevailed 3-2 to close the gap to 11-9 heading into the final singles matches.
England needed 15 points to retain the trophy and Lamb, the British stroke play champion put them on course with a fantastic 6&4 win in the first match to finish as England eased over the line in a professional display.
Nigel Edwards, England Golf Performance Director, said: “We are delighted with the victory against Spain on such a great golf course as El Saler.
“This was a wonderful effort by everyone and all contributed to a wonderful win.”
