LAURA Massaro faces Joelle King in the second round of the World Squash Championships today aiming to build on a pleasing victory in her opening tie.

Hoghton’s Massaro, the number five seed, overcame Egyptian Mariam Metwally in straight games in round one in Egypt on Saturday.

Massaro dominated the court against her opponent, taking the match 11-7, 11-7, 11-3 in half an hour to join compatriots Alison Waters, Emily Whitlock, Sarah-Jane Perry and Victoria Lust in the last-16.

“I took her extremely seriously,” said Massaro. “I know how good she is, and this is the first round of the World Championship so I wanted to play as well as I could and not to take any chances.”

Massaro, world champion in 2013, takes on King at 12noon local time.
