JACK Catterall completed a dominant victory over Martin Gethin in Manchester to retain his WBO Inter Continental Super-Lightweight title.
The Chorley ace needed just three rounds to defeat Gethin on the undercard of Terry Flanagan’s victory over Petr Petrov.
Catterall knocked Gethin down in the second round and floored him conclusively in round three as referee Phil Edwards stopped the contest.
El Gato improves his unbeaten record to 18 straight wins and the 23-year-old, and promoter Frank Warren, will now be hoping for bigger names and fights after this conclusive victory over 33-year-old Gethin.
Catterall was quickly out of the blocks on Saturday night at the Manchester Arena, and enjoyed plenty of success with right hands in round one before flooring Gethin with a series of hooks.
It seemed only a matter of time before the East Lancashire man stopped his opponent and so it proved as a solid left handed punch stopped the contest with 90 seconds on the clock in round three.
