RAMSBOTTOM claimed the first silverware of the new Lancashire League season as they defeated Burnley by 61 runs in the Ron Singleton Colne Trophy at Turf Moor on Sunday.

Lancashire League champions Rammy batted first and closed on 210-8.

And that proved enough to wrap up victory as the home side collapsed from 114-6 to 149 all out.

Sub professional Usman Tariq hit a century for the visitors before he was dismissed for 102 by Burnley skipper Dan Pickup.

Tariq had led a response for Ramsbottom who were 43-4 off 15 overs before former Church man Tariq and Jon Fielding helped them to a decent total.

Burnley were in contention for much of their reply but lost wickets at regular intervals and when Pickup was run out in the 33rd over as the sixth man out the visitors sensed victory.

And so it proved as Burnley lost two more wickets for just seven runs and a late rally could only get them to 149 as Rammy chalked up the cup.

Both sides will be back in action this weekend when the league campaign gets under way.
