SCOTT Barnett insists his Blackburn Eagles side are confident not complacent as they bid to claim a play-off victory in Sheffield this weekend.

The Eagles have already wrapped up the NIHL Laidler Conference title and make the journey across the Pennines as top seed ahead of their semi-final with home club Senators.

And with the Blackburn outfit set to fold at the end of the season it would be a fairytale finish if they could claim another piece of silverware.

But coach Barnett is taking nothing for granted.

He said: “We are confident but we know that any of the four sides could win it.

“It could be quite conceivable for the two top seeds to get knocked out on Saturday so we know it will be a tough test.

“If we play to our potential and how we have played in the league this season then we should win it and we are capable of winning it, but it doesn’t always work out that way. The league has been very close this year and is a really high standard so we are not taking any chances.”

And with this set to be the Eagles’ last hurrah, Barnett wants to end on a high.

The Eagles have not signed a contract to stay at Blackburn Arena after the rink management banned e-cigarette advertising which meant that the club’s main sponsor Totally Wicked could no longer back the team.

Barnett added: “With what has gone on in the last couple of weeks, I think we will have a lot of support in Sheffield and it would be great to win the play-offs in our last game.

“The lads all trained for the last time on Wednesday night and we trained really well, and we have to make sure we play to our maximum come the weekend.

“We are the scalp and the team everyone wants to beat as league champions but we have been there to be shot at all season so we can cope with the pressure.”

The Eagles travel with a fully fit squad with their last four tie taking place at 4.30pm today and the final at 1.30pm tomorrow.
