SAM Murray finished her modern pentathlon season on a high as she claimed silver at the Champion of Champions event in Doha.

And the Clitheroe star, who finished ninth in the Rio Olympics earlier this year, believes there is still more to come from her as she heads for winter training in Bath.

Murray said: “I want to keep in this moment that I am having now. I will keep training hard for the next season and try to improve my abilities, especially in fencing and shooting and stay happy.

“I have a great team around me and I am already looking forward to the 2017 World Cup number one in Los Angeles.”

It was Murray’s first appearance at the Doha event and she added: “Doha is a great venue with top-class facilities, and I’d love to see a World Cup or World Champ-ionships come here in the future.”

Murray opened up with a strong swim time which left her fifth in the standings before the East Lancashire star shone in the fencing salle to top the standings.

That put Murray in gold medal position ahead of the ride and she consolidated her lead with a strong perform-ance, picking up 295 points.

The 26-year-old began the run-shoot with a 13 second lead.

In a thrilling finale the lead changed hands several times but it was Germany’s defending champion Annika Schleu who claimed gold having started eighth with Murray crossing the line in second spot.
