CHORLEY boss Matt Jansen believes his side 'outplayed', 'outclassed' and 'outfought' Salford City as the Magpies continued their fine start to the National League North season with a 2-1 win at Victory Park.

Chorley came from a goal down to take the points on a wet and wild night with Jason Walker and Dale Whitham on target early in the second half.

Whitham had earlier missed the chance to open the scoring when he saw his early spot kick saved by Salford stopper Jay Lynch - who had initially been shown a red card for his foul on Marcus Carver only for the referee to change his mind.

Jansen had no qualms with that decision and he was left delighted by Chorley's resilience.

"We started really well and we got the penalty," he said. "Then there was a mix up with the sending off, the referee changed his decision which he is entitled to do so I have no issue. I think it disrupted the penalty taker but we battled on.

"They went ahead against the run of play but we had a talk at half time that it was a battle.

"They came wanting a war and we stood up to it but we want to play football and we showed that. We were excellent in the second half and got what we deserved.

"They are spending a load of money but we outplayed them we outclassed them and we outfought them."

Chorley are in FA Cup action on Saturday when they travel to Dunston UTS in the FA Cup second qualifying round.
