BLACKBURN Harriers and Barlick Fell Runners had reasons to cheer at the North West Road Relays.

The Harriers won two team golds, team silver and team bronze at the big Ormskirk event with two of their athletes taking the fastest leg runners of the Lancashire teams.

The under-13s girls team got the club off to a great start with Amy Davies, Eleesha Charnley and Jess Watson coming sixth overall, in a field of 22 teams, and grabbing gold for finishing as the fastest Lancashire team.

Amy ran the second fastest leg of the day (11mins, 1sec) and the fastest by any Lancashire girl, which meant she won an individual medal to go with her team gold.

She then rounded off a weekend to remember by winning 1,500m gold at the Blackpool Open Medal Meeting the following day with a new and huge personal best time of 5mins 14secs.

Back at the relays, and not to be outdone, the Harriers’ U13s boys team of Matt Ramsden, Ethan Rickard and Daniel Brown placed 10th overall, out of 18 teams, meaning they won gold for finishing as the fastest Lancashire team.

Matt replicated Amy’s performance with the joint second fastest leg of the day (10mins 14secs) and the fastest by any Lancashire boy, which meant he won an individual medal to go with his team gold.

Harriers’ U17s men’s team, comprising Liam Atkinson, Tom McKee and Zak Hargreaves, also powered to a podium place, securing Lancashire silver.

And there was also a bronze medal for the club’s senior men’s A team, consisting of Zac Howe, Karl Billington, Joe Monk and Tim Raynes.

They did superbly well to finish sixth in the 76-strong field, which meant they were the third fastest Lancashire team.

But Barlick’s senior men’s A team, comprising Marc Hartley, Chris Singleton, Matthew Lalor and Ian Livesey, did even better, finishing a fantastic fifth overall and second in the Lancashire standings, securing silver.

Lalor and Craig were both in the top-10 fastest Lancashire lap times.

Barlick’s senior ladies A team, comprising Emma Bailey, Lorraine Slater and Jennifer Hird, also won a medal, bronze for finishing as the third-fastest Lancashire team.
