BARLICK Fell Runners athlete Marc Hartley followed up his recent victory in the Towneley 10k by taking first place at the Worsthorne Moor Trail Race on Sunday.

Hartley has been in fine form this summer and also won the Burnley Lions 10k in May.

This time he triumphed by a comfortable 37-second margin on Worsthorne Moor, completing the course in 41 minutes three seconds.

Laura Hesketh, of Clayton Harriers, was the first female finisher in 49 minutes 19 seconds on a seven-mile multi-terrain race that started from Gorple Road.

The race included 900 feet of climbing and was part of the Pendle and Burnley Grand Prix.

Christian Holmes of Wharfedale Harriers was second overall in 41:40 and also took victory in the over 40s category – more than a minute ahead of the next runner in that section.

Barlick’s Thomas Corrigan was third overall in 41:42, while Clayton Harriers’ Danny Collinge was fourth in 43:07.

John Whiteside of Trawden Athletics Club was fifth in 43:14 with Barlick’s Christopher Smale sixth overall and the first over 50s runner in 43:19.

Barlick clubmate Andy Berry was seventh in 44:15 and Clayton’s Jordan McDonald was the first junior to finish as he took eighth place overall in 45:13, while Accrington Road Runner Graham Morris was ninth and the second over 50 in 45:29.

Clayton’s Phil Hall was 10th overall and the third over 50 finisher in 45:55, while Accrington’s Glen Goodwin was 11th in 46:06.

Alex Rowe, of Wesham Road Runners, was the first over 55s runner to finish as he took 14th overall in 47:01. Todmorden’s Richard Butterwick was the first runner in the 45-50 category, completing the course in 48:21.

First female finisher Hesketh was 28th overall with Deborah Gowans, of Accrington Road Runners, the second women across the line.

Gowans was 83 seconds behind Hesketh and finished 36th overall.

Clayton Harriers’ Claire Vincent was the third female to finish in 51:27, while Jeffery Pickup was victorious in the men’s over 60s category in 51:40.

Kelly Whiteside was the first female to finish in the 45-50 category in 51:48, with Horwich’s Tony Hesketh first in the over 65s section in 52:15.

Lisa Parker, of Accrington Road Runners, was the first female in the 35-40 age group in 53:30.
