AT 23 Sophie Hitchon says she feels like a veteran of the hammer as she took another Sainsbury’s British Athletics title and turns her attention to her third World Championships.

Hitchon only really started to give her full attention to the hammer in 2007 but since then she has performed on the world’s biggest stages, including an appearance at the Olympics in 2012.

And she once again showed on Sunday that she is the woman to beat in Britain as she easily took victory with a throw of 71.10m – 4.42m ahead of Sarah Holt in second.

While she might have been there and done it all before, Hitchon says being crowned British champion will never get old.

“To get another title makes me really proud,” said Hitchon. “Being British champion never gets old and I will never say no, I’ll always be really proud.

“We have still got a lot of weeks left before Beijing so I will just go back and get some good training in before we go.

“I have two competitions before Beijing but it’s crazy because that will be my third world championships, I feel like I am getting old.

“When I was younger it was easier to improve and I am getting to the stage where the little things make an incredible difference and I’ve come a long way since last year and hopefully this time next year I will have gone a lot further.”

Hitchon already has one eye on Rio 2016.

“Rio is obviously the thing on everyone’s mind and I would be incredibly proud to be a part of it again,” added Hitchon.

“London was unexpected and it was a great experience so hopefully I can take all that and keep moving forward.”
