EAST Lancashire pair Alison Leonard and Holly Bleasdale are not in the Great Britain team for next month’s European Indoor Athletics Championships in the Czech Republic.

Pole vaulter Bleasdale did not compete in this month’s British indoor competition. Leonard was second in the 1,500m in a personal-best time of 4 mins 13.57 secs.

The 39-strong Great Britain squad will be led by Olympic long-jump champion Greg Rutherford.

Rutherford has reversed a decision to skip the event after setting an indoor personal-best of 8.17m in Birmingham last weekend.

Rutherford is joined in the team by new British women’s long-jump record-holder Katarina Johnson-Thompson, who will compete in the pentathlon alongside 17-year-old Morgan Lake.

But Dwain Chambers has missed out on selection, with Richard Kilty preferred for the third men’s 60m slot.

Chijindu Ujah was automatically selected after winning the Indoor British Championships in Sheffield. Sean Safo-Antwi — also guaranteed a place after finishing second — receives his first senior call-up.

The European championships take place in Prague on March 6, 7 and 8.

British Athletics performance director Neil Black said: “I am really encouraged by what I have seen so far and we head to the Czech Republic in great shape.”
