A YOUNG Blackburn Harriers team are celebrating Sportshall success.

Harriers U11s girls won all three Lancashire Sportshall League matches to be crowned the 2014-15 champions.

And, in the overall club standings, Harriers finished third behind winners Preston and runners-up Kendal.

The club’s U13 girls team were second, its U15s girls fourth, and its U11s boys fifth.

Hannah Cookson won the U15s athlete of the match in the final round with wins in the 2-lap and 4-lap, a third-placed finish in the speed bounce and a fourth-placed finish in the long jump.

Nicholas Massey, meanwhile, had a great day at the Northern U13s/U15s Championships in Sheffield.

Competing in the U15s boys category he won a bronze medal in the 60m hurdles with a season’s best time of 9.20 seconds.

His coach, Bob Groves, was delighted.

He said: “Nick came third in the highest quality of races.

“The winner leads the UK rankings and the guy who was second is ranked third. Nick is seventh.

“Nick could make the final of the nationals.”

Charlotte Williams was in U15s girls action at the event, producing her best performance in the long jump, finishing 26th with a 4.29m personal best.

She also came fifth in her 60m hurdles race in 10.75secs, four tenths outside her PB.

Archie Braysford, meanwhile, travelled to Sportcity in Manchester for a Sale Harriers Open Series meeting looking to get his qualifying time for the National Indoor Championships, which he did comfortably, when winning his U17s men’s 60m race in a PB time of 7.34secs.

There was also cause for celebration for Oliver Aspden, who has missed a lot of training due to illness, after he marked his return with a victory in theU23s men’s 200m in a season’s best time of 23.15secs.
