ONE of the biggest events in the Rossendale sporting calendar will take place on Sunday, May 24 – the Rossendale Triathlon.
This year will be the 10th anniversary of the popular race which consists of a 400m swim in Marl Pits Pool, a 21km cycle ride passing through Whitewell Bottom, Water, Crown Point, Crawshawbooth and Rawtenstall, and a 5km run around Marl Pits to finish.
MORE TOP STORIES:
There are already 185 entries so far and, with the limit set at 270, organisers expect the rest of the spots to have gone by the end of March.
If anyone is thinking of entering they need to do it as soon as possible via www.bookitzone.com. Of the 185 entries received to date, 47 are females, 66 live in Rossendale, and some are from far and wide, including Glasgow and Yorkshire.
There is a wide range of abilities and experience among the field as it stands.
Some entrants are undertaking their first triathlon while others are regularly seen competing in local races.
The event, which is hosted by Rossendale Triathlon Club and Rossendale Leisure Trust, requires more than 60 volunteers to help in a number of roles, from general organisation to marshalling the competitors as they power around the circuit.
If anyone wishes to volunteer on the day they can contact triathlon@rossendaletriclub.co.uk.
Rossendale Triathlon Club meet at Marls Pits at 6pm on Thursdays.
New members are welcome.
