ORGANISERS of the only 10k race in Blackburn are expecting a record entry.

This year’s Winter Warmer 10k, which is preceded by a 2k junior race, takes place at Witton Park on Sunday, February 9.

Registration takes place from 9am at the Pavilion with the 2k junior race getting under way at 10am.

It is for children aged five to 17 and costs £2 per entry.

There will be prizes for the fastest boy and girl in each of the four age groups.

The main 10k race, which starts and ends on the athletics track at Witton Park and takes in the stunning scenery over Pleasington, gets under way at 11am.

It costs £10 for runners who are attached to clubs and £12 for unattached runners.

On the day itself entry for the 10k is increased by £2.

There will be prizes for the top-three finishing male and females, the male and female age group category winners, the fastest male and female under 19s runners, and the fastest male and female teams.

Sue Wolstenholme, chair of organisers Blackburn Road Runners, said: “So many people in Blackburn have become really passionate about running.

“It’s amazing to see such a strong community movement developing.

“We want to get 500 runners to fill this year’s Winter Warmer to capacity.

“It’s a great event, well marshalled, cheap to enter and everybody gets a goody bag.

“Together we can show Blackburn is the best when it comes to running and organising events like this.”
