MATT Nuttall continued his season to remember at Saturday’s Mid Lancs Cross County League race.

Nuttall, supported by Mark Chippendale, Shaun Livesey and David Almond, led Blackburn Harriers to the men’s over 40s team title at the Towneley Park event in Burnley.

He finished sixth overall and as the fastest MV40 in 33 minutes and 18 seconds.

But the main men’s team prize went the way of Barlick Fell Runners after Matthew Lalor came seventh in 33mins 37secs, James Craig 10th in 33mins 53secs, Chris Singleton 11th in 33mins 54secs, Ian Livesey 17th in 34mins 12secs, Stephen Chew 19th in 34mins 25secs and Christopher Smale 46th in 36mins 19secs.

There was also a top-20 finish for Clayton-le-Moors Harriers’ Christopher Holdsworth, who clocked 34mins 7secs for 16th, while Blackburn Harriers’ Jack Hindle was the fastest MU20s runner and 24th overall in 34mins 51secs.

An age group prize also went the way of Thornton Taylor of Rossendale Harriers, he was the first MV55 over the line and 83rd overall in 38mins 42secs.

Accrington Road Runners, comprising Graham Morris, Paul Gallagher and Paul Wickham, were the top men’s over 50s team, while Clayton-le-Moors Harriers, thanks to Peter Booth, Dugald McCallum and David Scott, took the men’s over 60s team honour.

Joanne Nelson led East Lancashire’s charge in the ladies race by coming second in 20mins 35secs.

That made the in-form Darwen Dashers member the fastest LV40.

Two places behind in fourth was Barlick Fell Runners’ Sarah Tipler in 20mins 54secs with Trawden AC’s Christina Singleton following up in eighth in 21mins 43secs.

Accrington Road Runners’ Deborah Gowans was the fastest LV45 and 11th overall in 21mins 55secs.

Gowans was part of the Accrington teams that finished second in the ladies over 35s standings, along with Lisa Parker and Laura Hudson, and the ladies over 45s standings, along with Samantha Hughes and Nancy Bailey.

Clayton-le-Moors Harriers, courtesy of Irene Roche, Jean Knightley and Katy Thompson, were the top ladies over 55s team.

The next race takes place at Lawsons Ground, Blackpool on February 14.
