SCHOOLS Cross Country Races may have clashed with the final race in the Red Rose Cross Country League series at Marl Pits, Rossendale but that did not stop Jackson McKay from powering to Under 11s boys victory in six minutes and nine seconds.

McKay’s second success of the series meant the Clayton-le-Moors Harriers starlet was crowned the overall U11s boys champion at Witton Park.

Claiming the overall U15s girls crown was Phoebe Small of Rossendale Harriers after she finished fourth on the day in 17mins 25secs behind clubmate Amelia Chadfield in third in 17mins 14secs and race winner, Megan Clarkson of Blackburn Harriers, in 16mins 27secs.

It was Clarkson’s first victory of the series and meant she finished second overall behind Small with Chadfield fifth.

Rossendale Harriers were the winners of the U15s girls team prize on the day and overall.

There was more joy for Rossendale Harriers in the U13s boys race as Matthew MacKay triumphed by two seconds in 8mins 55secs. MacKay came second in the overall standings.

Another Rossendale Harriers youngster, Josh Whitehead, finished second in the overall U15s boys standings after winning his first race in the series in 14mins 19secs.

Olivia Leigh, of Chorley Athletic and Triathlon Club, was second in the U11s girls race on the day in 7mins 4secs and second in the overall standings.

Briony Holt, of Clayton-le-Moors Harriers, achieved a second-place finish in the U13s girls race in 9mins 22secs, which ensured she finished third in the overall standings and helped her club to the team title on the day.

Following up in fourth and fifth respectively on the day were Rossendale Harriers duo Orla Holt, in 10mins 1sec, and Lauryn Gregg, in 10mins 4secs.
