AN Accrington Road Runners team made it on to the podium at the British Fell & Hill Relay Championship.

The mixed team of Martin Wilcock, Andrew Priory, Lisa Parker, Glen Goodwin, Debbie Gowans and Julia Hartley finished second in their category.

An Accrington spokesperson said: “There were over 200 team from all over the British Isles competing so they did really well.”

Meanwhile, if you want to test yourself or a team to the limit, the inaugural Ellis Brigham Trailblaster 12 could be for you.

The event is a 12-hour off-road relay race or ultra marathon challenge against the clock at Towneley Park, with a portion of the proceeds going to Pendleside Hospice.

Organised by CanonballEvents based in Todmorden, it is open to five-minute milers or 15-minute milers and is set on one of the longest days of the year, June 21, 2015.

People can run on their own, as a pair or in teams of four or five, and it is a case of chalking up the laps, which are 5km each, over 12 hours.

The race starts at 8am and finishes at 8pm.

The team/person with the most laps completed when the clock stops after 12 hours will win.

Entry for one person is £50, for two people it is £80 and for team entries of four or five members it is £185.

There will be drink stations, energy bars, chip timing, prizes from Ellis Brigham Mountain Sports along the way while camping is available.

Canonball owner John Lloyd said: “The Trailblaster 12 is an amalgamation of all our events and philosophies.

“It offers a challenge for club runners, unattached runners, park runners and ultra runners – it’s for everyone from the elite to the charity runner.

“We are incredibly proud to have Ellis Brigham as our sponsors and to be supporting Pendleside Hospice though our donations from the event.”
