BLACKBURN’S Byhrom Asgharyzadegan has secured a bronze medal at the British Closed Wrestling Championships.
The event took place in Welshpool in Wales and was part of the selection process for this summer’s Commonwealth Games, with wrestlers only allowed to compete if they held a British passport.
Asgharyzadegan was featured in the 74kg weight class, with the 10 competitors split into two groups of five.
He lost his first match but then won the next three to finishing second in his group and qualify for the semi finals.
Asgharyzadegan was defeated in his semi final contest but had already done enough to collect a highly creditable bronze medal.
His father Hossein, who moved to Lancashire from Iran in 1978 and has represented Great Britain at the Veteran World Championships, also took part in the event in Wales but was forced to withdraw because of injury.
