OLYMPIC hopeful Jonnie Schofield got off to a winning start at the first national regatta of the year.

The former Clitheroe Royal Grammar School pupil teamed up with Liam Heath to win the K2 200m sprint in Nottingham.

Schofield, from Sawley, is part of the Olympic Canoe/Kayak squad for the London 2012 Olympics. In the K1 200m, which will be included in the London Olympics, Schofield finished second and third over the two day event.

He will be competing in the Canoe Sprint World Cup series next month and also the World and European sprint championships.
