A Vinnie Braine strike on 50 minutes - direct from a free-kick - ensured Padiham ended 2007 on a high, as it gave the Storks a 1-0 home win over Westhoughton side Daisy Hill in Vodkat League Division One.
In monsoon-type weather conditions, Padiham created numerous first-half openings without reward, and had one almighty let-off on the half-hour mark when the visitors smashed a shot against the angle of Storks' post and crossbar.
In the second-half, the weather conditions got even worse but the Storks maintained their forward momentum and on 50 minutes scored the only goal of the game when a foul on Damien Morrison resulted in a free-kick and Braine curled in the dead-ball.

Further chances fell Padiham's way but it was full-back Jimmy Persechino who went closest to adding a second for the Storks with a 66th minute, 25-yard shot, against Daisy Hill's crossbar.
