DENNY Khan has left struggling Nelson after just four months in the managerial hot-seat - to be replaced by Nick Jackson-Cooney.

Khan, 42, replaced Terry Fildes last October, but he left the Victoria Park club following last Saturday's 10-1 defeat at Newcastle Town.

That humiliating loss left Nelson slumped to the bottom of Vodkat League Division One with just 12 league games remaining.

While disappointed at the club's lowly position, Khan insists his hands were tied by a tight budget.

Khan said: "There's been no money to bring in good players.

"We've tried, but what do you expect when you offer players next to nothing?"

Nelson chairman Alan Pickering said: "The 10-1 defeat was totally unacceptable and something had to give. Our league form has not been good enough."
